Love Your Outfit, Love Your Day

Previously on my blog I’ve spoken all about confidence and how you can make the most out of your work day (read my Girl Boss Checklist here!) and today I wanted to delve into the idea of having confidence from day to day because of what you wear.

The reason I have such a passion for clothes is because of how they make me feel. When I wear something I like, I feel good, and when I wear something a bit plain that I’ve worn 100 times before, I don’t get that confidence kick. There’s something about new clothes (or new wardrobe combinations) that really make me feel FAB, and it always puts me in a better mind frame for the day ahead if I think I’m wearing a sassy outfit.

Unfortunately, we can’t all be blessed with that ‘new clothes feeling’ everyday (maybe one day!). However, I still get that kinda feeling by finding new combinations of trousers/tops that I’ve never tried out before, or maybe by adding a piece of jewellery that I’ve not worn in a while. It’s a lot easier than you think to create a brand new outfit, but usually nobody enjoys the process of sitting on your bed the night before and blankly staring at your wardrobe trying to fit things together. My top tip will be to find one item (say, a certain top you’ve not worn for ages) and try on 3 or 4 different skirts/trousers with it along with an old necklace, and you’ll probably find something that works, and something you’ve never combined before.

Last week I remember going to work in a certain outfit, and it was all rushed in the morning and I wasn’t really sure if it ‘worked’ or not, but I had a compliment from a colleague and all of a sudden I just thought ‘actually, this TOTALLY works’ and I felt confident and happy in the outfit all day. I fully believe that your clothes can give you confidence, because it’s all about wearing what makes you feel comfortable and happy in. We all have to wear clothes, so why not enjoy wearing them!

In this outfit I’m wearing my favourite new plum trousers from New Look (a fab alternative for black if you’re a bit of a colour-phobe) along with some killer snakeskin heels from Ravel, a flare sleeve top from Joy and my half price bargain velvet blazer.

When I bought these New Look trousers a week or two ago I was totally obsessed with the colour and the tie waist, but about 10 seconds before I’d heard someone say ‘oh they’re horrid, aren’t they?’, and it really made me think about wearing what YOU like, and not what other people like. Before you leave the house you have nobody to give you an opinion on what you wear, apart from yourself, and that’s the only opinion you should ever listen to. I think a lot of us shy away a little at confidence because we aren’t sure what other people will think, but if you have the right attitude then you’ll set yourself up for the day. Some people find these flare sleeves a bit off, and I know some people who hate snakeskin shoes/bags, but if I feel fab in them, I’m wearing them.

If you leave the house feeling amazing, you’ll feel amazing all day.

Do you think clothes make a difference with your everyday confidence? And that if you feel good in an outfit, then you’ll feel good for the rest of the day? Let me know your thoughts as always!

Also – thoughts on the new hair?! I’m so pleased with my new honey tones!
