How to Nail Autumn Workwear

Autumn workwear is a tricky one, isn’t it? How much longer will the aircon be on? Should I be swapping out my big knits for my summer gear yet? With this Indian Summer we’ve been having I’ve only just started getting out some of my past season knitwear ready for the awkward transition phase. There’s no doubt, however, that layering is the key over the next month or so until the big freeze hits.

I’ve refrained myself from buying anything else summer related (although the sales are hard!) and only purchasing things that can be layered well over dresses and skirts/trousers. Being at work can be difficult with temperatures because nobody is ever happy or warm/cool enough! I myself am always freezing so always need a jacket or cardigan with me.

I thought I’d devise a fool-proof workwear look that can never go wrong for autumn, featuring a few new pieces in my wardrobe that I’m loving!

Can we take a moment for this dress?

It’s a wardrobe staple for autumn and an absolute bargain at ASOS. I’ve worn it a couple of times to work and the long sleeves and thick knit give it lovely and warm feel, but the addition of the side splits gives it a bit of a breeze… fast forward a month or two you could easily wear with tights and boots but I’m currently wearing with heels or sandals. The midi length is really flattering and easy to wear for the office, but it’s super stretchy too for comfort. At £28 I think it’s great quality!

It doesn’t come with a belt and I think it looks fine without – but I’ve popped a belt on (also from ASOS) with this outfit just to cinch the waist in and create some definition.

Too cold to wear the dress on it’s own? Add a blazer!

This one is from H&M and it’s the perfect addition (p.s. it’s in the sale!). The good thing about a black knit dress is that you can wear pretty much anything over the top. A knit cardigan, a blazer, a shawl, the list is endless! This sage blazer is great for a smart look but if you’re after a more smart/casual outfit then a cardigan would be fine. I’ve found H&M to be great for blazers this year if you are after a new one.

I did do a post a few weeks ago about transitional blazers if you need some inspo. Check it out here!

Hey, notice anything different about me? It’s the glasses!

Aren’t they gorgeous? These are a pair of Ray-Ban prescription glasses by the lovely Tortoise+Black who offer prescription glasses/sunglasses (or just for fashion if you fancy!) by loads of designer brands. We’re talking Chloe, Prada, Gucci, Tom Ford, Saint Laurent… the lot. I’ve worn glasses now for almost 10 years and if they’re something you wear 99% of the time, why not have nice ones? It’s obviously so important at work to have your glasses on – I know so many who don’t (coming from a migraine sufferer here!).

Tortoise+Black (who actually named themselves that because the most popular styles of glasses were tortoiseshell and black…) offer so many different styles to suit you so have a look at their site here. The pair I chose are a medium-large brown pair with a slight tortoiseshell hint to them – I think they go perfectly with my hair colour! Total 70’s vibe with the style too, and a great price. Click here for my exact pair. What do we think of them?

What do we think of the outfit? I’ve recently switched to my black Carvela handbag that I’m wearing here and I feel like such a boss when I wear it, haha! The power of a good handbag. The shoes are also an old Next pair but here is something similar.

Let me know in the comments what you think of the whole look, and how you’re all transitioning into autumn workwear?
